We’ve select a list of our favourite custom made furniture projects from 2019. Each piece tells a different story and collectively they reflect the immense talent of our maker community.
Each year we reflect on the inspiring body of work created by the talented furniture and lighting makers in our community. We feel so fortunate to play a role in helping people bring their ideas to life by connecting them with amazing local makers and artisans.
It’s a difficult task to select only ten from the hundreds of pieces commissioned via Handkrafted each year – those we’ve chosen to highlight aren’t the largest or most intricate, instead we curate a list that highlights the breadth of work and styles of our diverse maker community.
In no particular order, here are our top ten favourite client projects commissioned via Handkrafted in 2019…

Our experience with Leaf Handcrafted Furniture was absolutely excellent! My husband Adam and I were moving our Chiropractic clinic to a new location and Lars helped us in so many ways.He was supportive and patient as we made choices on materials and fabrics. He is incredibly skilled and has a lot of experience in his field which makes his input very valuable. He was always able to tell us whether an idea would work or not and was always willing to find a solution that pleased us. He went above and beyond and made our fit out experience so much easier!
Thank you Lars and Leesa, your artwork makes us happy every time we walk into our clinic and we constantly get comments from our patients about how amazing the space looks and feels.

Lars from Leaf Handcrafted Furniture impressed us from the start. We ordered a custom bed design, but we weren't 100% sure on what we wanted. We spoke to Lars and he helped us by going through some design concepts and coming up with a few ideas & sketches, right through to the realisation of the end product. Each detail was thought up and brought to life!
We can very happily say we are over the moon with the end result! A floating bed with simplicity and beauty that consists of geometric detail. These add both style and symmetry to the design, which we love!!! The unique finish of the grain (natural to the blackbutt wood) also compliment these design elements well. We couldn't have dreamt up a better design ourselves.
For a unique, highly-finished & excellent craftsmanship I would not hesitate to recommend Leaf Handcrafted Furniture! Simply beautiful!

Lars has installed the bed this morning and apart from being a really nice guy his craftsmanship, communication and final product are just fantastic. I have one very excited 11 year old daughter!
Would highly recommend the makers lane experience from yourself right though to the furniture makers just fantastic.

Finding your passion is life is one thing, but turning it into your full time job is another. Someone who is doing just this, is fellow furniture maker Lars Laug of @leaf_handcrafted_furniture .
Our relationship with Lars developed online, one day we received an email from Lars saying; “Hey, I’m a furniture maker from NSW and I have a customer who has sent me photos of your Square Bed, I just want to let you know they have asked me to make it… I am more than happy to pass this on to you guys if you would like to contact her directly.” We responded straight away with “Hey mate, thanks so much for reaching out to us, that’s awesome that you’ve done that! We actually don’t have a freight company that services the east coast so you absolutely go for it.” Lars responded instantly, “what’s your phone number” and called Al straight away, he proceeded to shared with us the freight company he uses and Al and Lars spent quite a lot of time on the phone back and forth trading tips and advice.
Something that has stood out from us from day one was how open Lars was in helping and sharing his knowledge and skills with us.
Since that initial email, we’ve been following each other’s journey through Instagram, Lars is one of our biggest supporters and is always sending beautiful messages our way. When we booked our trip to Byron Bay for Al’s birthday we contacted Lars to arrange to catch up and meet face-to-face. We met at his house and it was meant to be a really quick catch up and we ended up there for over four hours. It was so nice chatting to Lars and Leesa couple who are doing what we’re doing, we found so many similarities in our stories, talked shop, discussing our shared passion for timber and making.
We really wanted to interview Lars and share his work with you all, a master of his craft, incredibly humble and beautiful person. Thank you Lars and Leesa for welcoming us into your home, thank you for sharing your story and thank you for inspiring us.
